Requirements vary by state and county, but in Missouri and Kansas you'll typically need to visit your local county clerk's office together, present valid government-issued photo ID, and pay a small fee. Most licenses are valid for 30–180 days depending on the state, so timing matters! We recommend securing your license at least two weeks before your ceremony date. Your Wah Joy officiant is happy to answer questions and will handle the signing and filing on your behalf.
Even intimate ceremonies benefit from a little lead time! We recommend booking your Wah Joy officiant at least 4–6 weeks in advance to ensure availability and give us time to craft a ceremony script that's truly personal to you.
Planning on a popular date like a holiday weekend or a date with special meaning? Book earlier to be safe.
A professional Wah Joy wedding officiant will carefully prepare and execute your ceremony in a way that brings everyone together. And with Wah Joy, you can rest assured that you’ll always have a backup officiant waiting in the wings.
The beauty of an elopement is that your backdrop can be anything — a scenic park, a rooftop, a cozy restaurant, or even your own backyard. When choosing your spot, consider permitting requirements (some public lands require them), lighting for photos, and accessibility for any guests you're including. Not sure where to start? Wah Joy can suggest venues in the Kansas City, Springfield and St. Louis areas that are perfect for intimate ceremonies.
